allinurl:tumblr in my 30DC niche blog google analytics

Hi all,

By now the tumblr tumble is an old news, so nothing much to say about that. It’s a downer, but not a stopper.

What I’ve found interesting in google analytics of one of mine 30DC tumblr pages was that someone used allinurl:tumblr as a search in google to get to my page. What does this mean? It means that someone listed all 511,000 indexed pages that has word ‘tumblr’ in its url. If this was another moment in time I’d say fine, somebody likes tumblr people perhaps, and went through all tumblr blogs this way, but right now it seems that someone is fishing on fresh key phrase ideas. Woohoo! Good for him! I hate to see somebody doing this, but I think that Ed & Co should have provided 30DC contestants with alternative web2.0 hosting platforms/blogs. Lots of alternatives that came a bit late by Mike Mindel: Tip #12 - IMPORTANT - It’s the Process NOT the Platform

We wouldn’t be such an easy target for spammers, and wouldn’t provoke tumblr to tumble us I think, but we’ll go on now… two days wasted, two keywords per person, max, potentially too :)

An alternative method is to use site:www.digg.com tumblr.com. Purely for research you understand. I have my two niches and I’m not changing them!

This is nothing new. I had my whole database of members copied and put into another site to be claimed as their members - this goes on whatever system you use.

If they can only find keywords by stealing others then they will never make very much as their one brain cell can only do one thing at a time.

You are totally right on! Mine was one of the blogs singled out by Marco (and I didn’t think it was spammy either - but it did hit number 1 with google). Since yesterday I’ve soon so many recent additions using my keyword phrase. I find it totally pathetic that people are so lazy that they would resort to this - gives a bad name to the rest of us 30DC’ers.

Well, whatever. These are the people who will always be riding on others. If you know the methodology, you can find an infinite number of phrases - but its just sad. Ed and Dan are being so giving by offering all this training for free. I find it appalling that some people would go around STEALING fellow 30DC’ers keyphrases.

Yeah, it’s not something I wasn’t expecting, it just bugs me to see scumbags taking the opportunity of stealing keywords. Hence the article.
